Just like to thank the girl in the bar area Kelly. Nothing was too much trouble and I felt Kelly went beyond the required to help me out. She had a fantastic knowledge of the local area and helped me to find a shop to get some paracetamol for my headache. She also helped make my stay a pleasant one. Kelly also made me a fabulous g&t which wen't down an absolute treat after a long day! Would like to personally thank her for all her efforts. Room was average for the rate paid however the service received at the bar improved my opinions of the place.
Had a great stay at the Hotel. Looks amazing after the refurb and becoming the new brand. The food was amazing in the restaurant, the staff were so helpful, especially Ethan, while only working at the Hotel for 2 weeks he knows so much and is so willing to help with anything. The bedroom was so spacious and comfortable with everything we needed. Also, it was a pump soap and not a block of soap to wash your hands!
The hotel is in a convenient location to the town centre. The reception and bar area have been refurbished and look very nice however the room we stayed in was very tired and in need of its own refurbishment. When we arrived there was an enormous queue for reception with only one person on the desk. A manager was subsequently approached but informed us that he couldn’t help because he didn’t know the system, I don’t know how you can manage a hotel if you don’t know how to work in one. There were also a lot of people returning because their key cards didn’t work, this was because they had to be inserted the opposite way to every other hotel I’ve ever been in and rather than explain this at check in people were left to either figure it out themselves or trail all the way back to reception and rejoin that queue. That being said, the room was a good size and the bed was comfortable, there was plenty of tea and coffee and we managed to get free parking because the machine wasn’t working.
First time I stayed here, booked through my work.
From outside the hotel looks really nice, ample parking too which is ideal.
However as soon as I entered the hotel reception (around 5pm) there were a queue of at least 8 people waiting to check-in and only one person on reception desk. It transpired that this person were due to finish but was covering the desk because the night shift worker called in sick...bless him as he was pleasant and the check in process was pleasant.....or so it seemed.
My room was on the other side of the hotel and upon arriving to my room door the key didn't work. So I travelled back to the other side with my luggage, where the hotel reception was and guess what....a queue of at least 7 people waiting and the same single person on check in. Feeling slightly frustrated, as did some of the other guests we managed to track someone down to try and reprogramme our keys (oh, forgot to mention there were at least 3 people facing the same problem!!) Back to my hotel room I went, with what seemed to be a brand new room key and...it didn't work for the second time!
Back I went to the hotel reception with my luggage, this time there were 2 other guests travelling back with me as we all faced the same problem but they had tried 4 times so we're a little miffed to say the least. To no surprise, another queue of at least 6 prople waiting but 2 people on the reception desk. I would have thought the duty manager would have provided some additional cover but they were covering the bar!
The slightly miffed guest queue jumped to the desk and had a rant about their key ("checked in 45 mins ago and can't get into my room, 4 times they have tried the key..").
This time the chap on the desk provided a new room with old keys (shock horror, they had their room booking system upgraded during the renovation works), the other guest refused to walk back to their new rooms without the staff member trying it first...didn't blame him as the new rooms were still on the other side and carrying bags to/fro was majorly annoying. I went with the staff member and managed to get in my new room, not with the 3rd key but the staff members master key!l, God only knows how those guests would have reacted if their 5th room key didn't work!
This whole experience has put me off this hotel, really shocking and frsutraring but I would like to see if the service has improved and credit to those staff members that took a lot of rants that night and were very apologetic.
To be continued....
Parking is free if you are staying at the hotel, wasn't sure if the hotel are changing their name as there was two signs for the hotel. the hotel was undergoing renovation and you can see some of the improvements from the entrance. The lift was small and dated. My room back in the day would have been top notch, however we are in 2019 and I was expecting something modern. I did expect a renovated room as the works have been going on for some time. The light in the dressing area did not work and the heating is the old fashioned blow heating. All is not bad as the staff were very helpful and welcoming. My bed kept moving away from the wall and I was just propping my self up with pillows.
Tbh you get what you pay for and I think it was great value for what I paid. I would stay here again but would ask for one of there new rooms.
