A German couple I met in Phong-Nha recommended this guesthouse as a place to stay. Having stayed in hostel dorm rooms for the previous few weeks, I wanted my own private room for a few nights, at a reasonable price. I stayed for 3 nights and would recommend this guesthouse if you are looking for a reasonably-priced (my room was $9 USD per night), clean and no-fuss place to stay.
The owner, Mr. Thanh, was an extremely helpful and friendly host. On my first night, I accidently left a bank card in a bank ATM. The next morning, Mr Thanh took the trouble to immediately ride me on his motorbike to the bank's main office in Hue (about a 10-15 minute ride away), where I could report the missing card. He then took me back later, where the bank had fortunately recovered the card. As you can imagine, I was greatly relieved and extremely grateful for Mr Thanh's help on this matter - and this is a good example of Mr Thanh's great hospitality; nothing was too much trouble for him.
I did two motorbike tours with Mr Thanh's guesthouse - on both, Mr Thanh drove while I was the passenger. The first was a tour of Hue city - we stopped at 4 main stops; two tombs (Khai Dinh and Tu Duc), the pagoda, and the Citadel. At each stop, Mr Thanh gave me as much time as I needed. The tour was just $10 USD (although admission to the tombs and the Citadel is extra) and a great way to see the city - I had not ridden much on a motorbike before, so found the experience enjoyable and exhiliarating!
The second tour was the 'Top Gear' motorbike tour from Hue to Hoi An - going through the Hai Van pass and Danang city. It rained very heavily for much of the journey, but Mr Thanh provided waterproof jackets and pants, so you were well protected. And in spite of the rain, it was again an enjoyable and memorable experience! We also stopped at the Marble Mountain for an hour or so. This tour was $45 USD - good value considering the distance and time to travel, provision of waterproofs (your bags are also packed in waterproof material) and information Mr Thanh provided along the way. We left Hue at about 8.30 and reached Hoi An at about 4 - with Mr Thanh dropping me off at my accommodation in Hoi An. I had originally intended to do the journey by train, but am happy with my decision to go by motorbike.
Breakfast is additional - only $1 or $2 USD. I was also fortunate to dine with Mr Thanh and his family on my second night in the guesthouse - and the food (cooked by Mrs Thanh) was again fantastic. All in all, I enjoyed my stay in Mr Thanh's guesthouse, appreciated his and his staff's hospitality and would recommend the guesthouse to others for a good value place to stay.
Dont stay here. Just bad. A/c doesnt work, wont leave you alone about easy riders and bus tickets, dirty, when you look out the window theres a brick wall an inch away with a picture of a beach pinned to it. Find somewhere else!
