Just spent 3 nights in the Hi Land in Phnom Penh; not a bad hotel, room was basic but acceptable for the cost of $14 per night?
Cable TV; hot shower, OK bed.
Little bit out of the way, no western style eating facilities around and breakfast at the hotel (not in the room rate) was "not good".
Have to say reception staff; especially "Mr Hong" very helpful.
Would stay there again as good for airport but only for a night or two at the most, otherwise would want to be closer to the river area.
It was a short stay for 3 nights. We made a reservation for $16.5 per night for first 2 nights, but walk in price is $14! Keep that in mind for all reservations in South Asia! The Phnom Penh itself is very dirty peace of urbanized market civilization. You can not breath normally there. Also keep in mind that NO Public transportation in Phnom Penh. Cost of tuk-tuk is astronomical (minimum after bargain it will cost you $3!!!!). So just walk. And walking in that city is a night mare. The Hotel gives you a shelter to survive.
Staff is nice, the breakfast buffet for $3 is not bad, but you have to start at 7 am, since some items could be eaten out and not replaced after. Two hot plates, two deserts, porridge, Tea coffee, water, juice, two or one type of fruits. Room is nice. Keep in mind, that walk in rate will be lower compare to any reservation in advance you made.
Not so GOOD:
Check the hot water before agree for the room. Internet may work very slow from time to time. Also I could be some trouble to connect to WiFi spot. The staff from corridor could be noise early morning (after 7am). Choose room far from elevator and stairs.
