Somehow I missed the bad reviews but maybe I just wasn't looking for them. I am currently staying at the Wa Lai House and have been here for 2 weeks. Our first morning at this place our ac stopped working but was quickly fixed once we learned how to operate it ourselves. These units are different from the ones we are used to using in the States so a quick explanation by Ann would have been nice but instead of getting that we got attitude. Like all places in Thailand or at least most the water tank is on top of the building and it was very hot the first week so we had hot or at least warm water. After about 5 days when it started raining and cooled down we realized that the hot water was not working, we were without hot water for 4 days, after 2 days she finally asked us if we wanted to move to the room next door but said it would be fixed soon so we just showered in the other room and waited for the repair, the repair lasted 5-7 days and now we are without hot water again. When we stopped by the desk to let her know she gave us an attitude and when we asked her if we could shower in the room next door like last week when it wasn't working we got attitude.
The website says they have bikes to rent, NOT TRUE! Website says they have a cafe for breakfast but when we asked her if we could get breakfast there in the morning her response was"not really"??? What does that mean? She told us when we checked in that we could make local calls from her phone to set up any excursions or travel around Chiang Mai that we wanted to but when it came time to do that she wouldn't let us because we were not using the guides or services she obviously gets a kickback from. The pictures are very deceiving and only show very small pieces of the whole picture. The maid was very nice and kept our room clean but the overall experience was horrible. There are plenty of good places to stay very close to the WaLai House if that area is most convenient for you. I only wished I had not been duped by Ann to pay for a month (because it saved me a good amount of money) the first day and just moved to a different place. Paying more would have been better than dealing with the issues and attitude. I don't think that asking for hot water or what they set as an expectation is being unreasonable.
