I got stuck in Ipoh for two nights, and I decided to stay in the Abby Hotel mainly because of the room price (quite inexpensive). On the plus side: the hotel is quite centrally located, and the dorm room is ok. On the negative side: the bathroom (outside of the dorm) was horrible. On my day of arrival, someone apparently had had some stomach problems, which can happen, no problem. However, 3 (!!!) days later, the toilet still hadn't been cleaned! Even after notifying the staff several times, they simply refused to clean the toilet. And as the shower was located in the same room as the toilet, my shower experience was quite unpleasant too, for obvious reasons. Moreover, staff was extremely unfriendly and unhelpful. Pay a bit more and go for one of the better accommodations. I wouldn't stay here again.
Book this hotel as I found that a family room with 2 king size bed is available because I am travelling with my husband and 2 kids. When I passed my booking voucher to the front desk, the guy asked a lady whether she was aware of our booking. Then came a man who was older (I assume is the boss), and asked them to check online. When I question them was there any problem with our booking, we were told by the receptionist that our room was not ready. when we came back around 6pm and checked in, I realised that the room given was equipped with 4 single beds. When I checked with the front desk (the staff that we arrived were not there anymore), the 2 king size bedroom was taken up by others. She proposed us to push all the beds together and we did.
I would like to suggest to the management to keep track of the online booking through their agent as we were quite disappointed when not given a room that we requested and I had called personally to the hotel and the staff who picked up my call confirmed with me that we were given a room with 2 king size bed.
However, I must say that this hotel comes in good size and value for money. Coffee, tea and milo is available at lobby at a nominal fee. The hotel also have a mini convenient store which is a good idea. Moreover, hotel guests are eligible for 10 minites FREE internet access to check their mailbox.
Another small issue was that we found out some ants on the bed frames mounted on the wall. We just shifted all the beds to the other end.
