Honestly, I wish the score system was a little more granular as I think 4 is a little unkind - sorry about that - but there were just a few too many niggles that stopped us from giving a 5.
However - we had a fabulous break away this february. Last minute booking but everything went smoothly and Lanzarote at this time of year was temperate and very comfortable.
Firstly the staff - they were really hardworking, polite, friendly and attentive without being overbearing. They tended to our every request with a smile and honestly couldn't fault them at all.
Then comes the Hotel itself - having been designed by Cesar Manrique, the design of both the building and the grounds is quirky and beautiful. The indoor garden was stunning and made for a very pleasant stroll. The pool was picturesque and a general delight just to lounge by throughout the day.
Some of the comments regarding faded carpets and perhaps slightly smaller rooms I suspect stem from the protected nature of the building - we didn't think it a big problem in truth and by totally embraced the hotel we really enjoyed the experience.
There is an exclusive "Level" area with a la carte lunch / dinners - we didn't sign up to this and perhaps because we were there at a quiet time, we really didn't feel that we missed anything.
In particular, the food at lunch and dinner at the buffet restaurant was truly excellent. Quite often with these large buffets, we've tended to get bored after about day three of four as it is similar fare served up again and again. In this case this simply was not true and throughout the week we were there, there was genuinely a different theme each night and the quality of the food did not disappoint.
Alongside the pre-prepared dishes, there was always a central area where a selection of meats and fish could be prepared for you as you wished - fresh as you like and in abundance!
The one negative, and the main reason we just felt we couldn't give this place a five star though also stems a bit from the food and drinks. Though the quality was excellent, the labelling of the dishes was not to the same standard. This meant we often had to turn down dishes where we were just unsure on the contents. This alone would have been tolerable but sadly there was a vegetable dish labelled as such which we later found small slices of meat in. As non-pork eaters you can imagine this was quite distressing.
We encountered a similar issue with the drinks. Again, plentiful and very accomodating for all sorts of drinks / cocktails etc but we were given a number of alcoholic mixes despite asking specifically many times for this to be "sin-alcohol"
Those two blips aside though, it has been an excellent week away, relaxing and stress free. We would go back certainly and I'm happy to recommend this hotel to you all!
Huge selection every day something different. During our weeks stay I was never stuck for an option that suited my dietary requirements and it was all delicious. Beware the puds even the most saintly will fall off the no pud wagon they are to die for.
It is a fantastic hotel in a good location, very clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. Just one thing when I arrived it was deemed to cold for the a/c and evidently they can only have heating or cooling separately which is not what I expect for a 5 star hotel.
This was our second stay at the Melia Selinas. They have renovated/modernised the dining room and bar.
Rooms are very comfortable and staff very friendly. Excellent location.
Food is very good. Breakfast buffet is vast!
We ate dinner in the hotel only once, and it was very good.
Pool area is great.
All inclusive booked for the first time, it was great, house drinks only but wine was decent and never an issue to get served. Booked the Level (an upgrade), this was ok but breakfast was a little slow but everything served a la carte. Pool areas were large, plenty of beds so never an issue to get one. Location was great about 5 minute walk to the main town were it was very English orientated. My only issues were the food, mainly buffet which never drastically changed and the food was always tepid, warm at best. Service was really good, the evenings entertainment was mixed. I would come back to this hotel but not pay for the Level but would go all inclusive
