We loved this hotel and the staff who ran it. The rooms are basic, but clean and have fantastic views and its close the the harbour that allows you to easily access islands close by for kayaking and climbing. The family who run it are lovely people too!
We stayed here for 2 nights. It is located a 15 minute walk from Cat Ba city.
Only one person at the hotel understood english. We were just giving a key, and sent to our room. The room was not very clean, had no minibar, hair on the sheets (We asked them to change the sheets, which they did not understand or do). There was also no Wi-Fi in the room, but cockroaches were to be found!
When we where checking out, we found that our passports had just been but in a drawer with no lock (to bad, since there werent anybody in the reception at night) They also then informed us that they was charging for the water (most expensive water in the history of South East Asia), and the breakfast as well. Maybe they charged extra for the 3 ants we get served in the tea...
Needless to say, i would not stay here again.
We chose this hotel because it was the only affordable option in one of the impossibly busy July weekends. We (5 persons) stayed for three nights and paid 12 USD per night per person. The rooms were very clean, had airco and one had a really nice view over the bay. There was (weak) wifi access, however only usable in the lobby or on the staircase.
So far the good news. They overcharge you for everything, from the seemingly free water in your room, over the bad breakfast (which we didn't take but they tried to charge us for it anyway), to the laundry (which we received wet and smelly because it had been stashed in plastic bags, and after checking the weight we discovered they again tried to charge us for too much). Not a single staff member speaks more than three words of English, which led to some frustrating communicative dramas. When they call you a taxi, they always get the same unpleasant guy, who tries to charge you more than double the right price. Everywhere is advertised that they accept mastercard, but apparently they didn't so we had to scrape together every dong we had to get the right amount.
We strongly felt all this wasn't out of bad will, but out of incompetence or because they don't care about customer service (or at least don't know what this means).
It's a cheap and decent option, but don't expect any extra's and be prepared to double-check everything they tell you.
the hotel view very good
but the staff there very bad heart, be careful , no service ,pricy compare with down town,
in out downtown need to take motor bike (can rent for around u$10 per day)
and the water in the room was charged high price without price in the menu
air con dont work
We stayed here after our blue swimmer adventures kayaking overnight tour, and the hotel was great. They had hot and cold water showers, friendly staff, breakfast was not very good at all. Rooms were nice with enclosed shower.
