We ended up staying at the Makoto Resort which we were very pleased because it's only 5 minute walk to the white sand Alona beach with free breakfast. Staff is excellent service and very friendly. Price is very cheap with internet, swimming pool and 5 min walk to the beach with nightlife and massage on the beach. They booked a city tour and island hopping tour, we watched the dolphins at 6 am then went snorkeling and saw bright colored fishes and coral reefs, then to the Virgin island with water up to your ankles in the middle of the ocean. Lots of things to do like zip line, caves, waterfalls, dolphin/whale watching, Chocolate Hills-one of the 7 wonders of the world.
Makoto Resort's "saving graces" are the friendliness and 'graciousness' of Jason--main reception person, the location, AC, HOT water shower, English-channel TV, and the pool--it is quite small, yet clean, and relaxing for me when I wanted to stretch in the water.. What's left is the room.... which I was SOOOO very ready to pass on, and decided to go ahead and give it a try. I am glad I did.
The downfalls: the half-broken toilet seat: one side-hinge held it to the bowl, while the other side....is moveable. There are not enough outlets. The barking dogs, the crowing roosters. And the worst: the rough and very rocky and pot-holed road-- there is NO LIGHTING. Jason provided a flashlight for my use. There is no Breakfast provided, nor a place next door to eat--one needs to walk out to the main and a little further, or walk down to the Beach.
The last item is purely 'taste' or something visually pleasing-- or NOT! the pillowcases, the sheets, the comforter (given upon request): all were of different print and different color....yet clean.
MAKOTO RESORT certainly falls short of its name!
And, Jason and his parents are truly 'Good People.' Their friendliness and desire to help is real and felt. They make the difference!
