We stayed in this hotel on the first and last night of our trip to Burma in April this year.
The hotel is in an excellent location in down town Yangon, less than 5 minutes walk to Scott Market and within walking distance of quite a few sights even in the 40 degree heat!
The staff were also friendly and got us a taxi (and negotiated the price on our behalf) at least once.
The room itself was the main problem, this is a cheap hotel for Yangon, and despite the hotel only having been open since 2012 the room seemed older and a bit tired. both my wife and I thought that if we returned to Yangon we would stay somewhere a bit nicer.
Having said that we usually stay in 4* or 5* accommodation so we may be being a bit unfair on the place. If you are on a budget there is nothing wrong with the Mayflower. If I could I would give it 3.5 out of 5.
Opened up in 2012 this hotel is a newcomer in Yangon. It's a small high building (with elevator) in one of the side streets (29th street). It's on walking distance of Bogyoke Aung San market and little India. Sule paya is nearby too. There are 20 rooms in this building. Our room was quite large, and we requested an extra bed for our teenage son. We payed 60$ a night for this room, double rooms are 50$. It's quite a lot of money for what you get, but this is how things are going in Burma right now. Don't expect any quality for what you pay. Yangon is one of the most expensive towns in Burma.
The room however was nice, clean and comfortable. There was airco, towels and toiletries supplied. Breakfast is included in the price. It is served in the "dinning room" where the waiters are more than happy to serve you a nice breakfast. Too bad the restaurant did not have a window, so you feel quite "locked up".
There is free wifi, but it is not working in the whole building. The signal was very week on the 4th floor where our room was. In the lobby is a computer too which you can use, and wifi is working fine in that same lobby.
We mailed this hotel several times to make a reservation, but hardly any reply. I think this had something to do with their poor english.
We could make a reservation however by a previous client of them who payed a deposit for us to get a reservation.
The staff was very polite and very friendly. English language is hardly spoken. We got a free drink on arrival, and they were very helpfull.
No complains about the staff for us, we had a pleasant stay here. Location was convenient too!
