“Decent Serviced Apartments for 1-2 day visit in Powai”

I stayed in "the View" on February 2015. It is basically a serviced apartment in an otherwise residential building. The place is located on main road just across powai lake. Though I had not seen any place in apartment which has a view to lake. The place was quiet and decent. The apartment has 3 bedrooms a drawing cum dining area and a kitchen. Caretaker is nice and takes care of basic requests. Do ask for change of sheets, towels if you feel its required. The room was of decent size and beds are comfortable. The AC and TV works as expected. If you are travelling as a couple or need privacy, I would suggest to check in a hotel. For single stay or couple of friends, its a good choice. Beware , thereis no real landmark near the place so make sure you keep in touch with caretaker over phone or using gmap to find the place. I do believe it is a bit overpriced but since there are no real options in Powai for hotels, there charges are justified.

I had come across this place on a random search of hotels in the powai area in tripadvisor website...Even though I had brilliant experiences with serviced apartments in countries like Greece, Italy and new Zealand, I was a little sceptical about trying this option out in our own country...Nonetheless having faith in tripadvisor I went ahead to book my 1 day stay in Mumbai on 23rd January...
1) Décor: The apartment is exactly the way it has been picturised on the website of tripadvisor...no exaggerations at all...no fabrication of facts at all!!!..The location is superb...just 10-15 mins walk to Hiranandani greens, one of the most happening areas of north Bombay...The apartement is located on the 17th floor of excel towers, bang opposite the IIT main gate...very easily accessible and easily located from a distance....There are 2 bedrooms with a drawing cum dining space...each bedroom has access to a private bathroom and toilet...If you choose to book only one bedroom (sufficient for 2 travellers), there will be no disturbance to your privacy at all...they also have the option of booking the whole apartment for a bigger group...The bedroom is well equipped with a neatly kept closet and dressing table...the bathrooms are spic n span....But the highlight is the tiny balcony cum sliding window which offers a spectacular view of Bombay nightlife and the powai lake...through this window you can keep gazing whole night at the city that never sleeps!!!...very well ventilated and well lit..getting such a room in Mumbai is a real steal!!!...full 5/5 for the room and the apartment...
2) Service: the host Mr sanjay goyal was communicative enough to watsapp me the pictures of the apartment and also guided us well to reach the aprtemnt without any hassles...But the only disappointment in the whole stay was the absolutely incompetent and lazy care taker raju...Despite being informed about 45 mins before we arrived, he dint bother to keep the room ready...when we reached tired from the airport, he made us wait in the drawing room for about half n hour...On top of it, there was not a sign of hospitality and warmth in his behaviour...In the evening he kept us waiting at the door for 15 mins..we were tired banging on the door to open....!!!
My only request to Mr Goyal is to find a better caretaker...because a stay becomes more memorable if the host is warm and hospitable...nobody wants to see a sullen and inhospitable face while travelling!!!...For service I give 2/5....
But all in all...surely a great place to stay in Mumbai...provided the host bothers to read my opinions and change the care taker!!!
I took a 3 bedroom Apartment at the View - Powai for 3 nights from the 25th Jan-28th Jan. The apartment was opposite the Lake, on the Main Road and easy to find. On reaching the apartment, the door was opened by a Nepali guy, who had no smile, no welcome, we had to take our luggage to our rooms. Rooms had no bedsheets, a/c not on, toilets had no soap/shampoo or even towels. Asked the boy - I think his name was Basant, he didnt seem bothered, and went back to sitting on the window ledge and using his mobile phone. This irritated all of us a lot. We asked him about food, and he brought out a couple of menu cards and threw them on the table. It was then that I called Ms Poonam with whom I booked the place and complained about the staffs attitude. Afther this, things changed, he began to smile, asked us what we wanted and things went smoothly after that.
Two rooms have attached bathrooms, one has a common bathroom. For 3 rooms, the place is value for money. We order food from one of the menu cards, and it was promply delivered and of good quality and very well priced. On some days the guy made chapatis for us which he charged at Rs.3 each, light and fluffy, but we were surprised when he billed us for 80 of them ! I am sure 6 of us never ate 80 !, but since they were reasonably priced, we didnt argue.
The aprartment is of great value if the person there is taught to value and respect guests that come to stay there. On two days, we found his friends along with him and they were busy laughing and chatting, this is not right. Also, everything should be ready in the room at the time of our checking - bedsheets, towels, a/c, soap, shampoo, one should be asking for each and everything. He doesnt even replace them the next day, we have to resume asking him once again. This would be a great place if only there were someone more responsible running the place. But yes, for what I paid, its value for money, and I will definetely stay there again, and hopefully, there would be a better caretaker there too... someone who takes his job seriously !
