I don't usually write bad reviews but I would have liked to know these things before booking.
My partner and I stayed here for one night because we were flying out of hai phong airport to go to da nang. After looking online we were impressed with the vast number of facilities and thought it might do nicely for a day/night.
Firstly, the hotel is in the absolute middle of nowhere, nowhere near the centre of Haiphong. Even though there is not much to do in hai phong, it's literally next to nothing but lots of noisy industrial construction.
Additionally, we were the only guests staying here so it was like a ghost town.
When we got to our room we immediately thought it smelt awful probably due to the carpet.
We thought in the evening we might get a massage at the camela spa which was a massive mistake- it looks NOTHING like it does in pictures. They take you to the neighbouring "camela motel" which houses about 6 upstairs rooms with beds and mirrors (not massage beds). The ladies who arrived to massage us were wearing tiny silk dresses that didn't leave much to the imagination and high heels. It was definitely a brothel and we felt extremely uncomfortable, not to mention the massage that we received was awful anyway.
In the morning we went for a look around the golf club/tennis club/swimming pool. The golf club looked fine, however I wanted to play tennis and they didn't even have tennis rackets.
The hotel staff were not very helpful, no one at the front desk spoke much English - I had a better time with communication when I ordered room service from the hotel restaurant.
I couldn't order any cocktails from the hotel bar (there was a whole page of them in the menu) because the bartender didn't know how.
The only good things I can say bout this hotel are that the beds are decent, the wifi is decent and the included breakfast was acceptable.
After reading negative reviews I was expecting the worst. However, on entering our room was very impressed by the size and carpet was clean and almost new. We may have been lucky and got a good room. However, how friends also had a similar room. There is a bit of smell from the food in the corridors but it is not overbearing. For us it was a good stopover.
I go on business in Haiphong and stayed at Camela three nights.
The hotel is far from city center about 4 kilometer but it is very space and airy.
That is make me comfortable so much. In here I can walk around, fishing.... In gereral, relaxing and reducing stress.
We had to stay in haiphong for one night until our halong bay cruise starts at cat be.
So we had the choice of the harbour view hotel and the really cheap ones in the city.
We took the camela hotel for one night a little bit outside the citycentre and we should'nt have done it.
The best times of this hotel are gone, the whole hotel needs urgent renovation!
The carpet in the rooms are dirty and full of stains.
The bathroom is also full of stains, a lot of the tiles are broken.
The smell of food in the whole hotel is overwhelming,.
The staff is friendly, that's the only good thing to mention.
Haiphong isn't the touristic place to be, but camela hotel is it not at all!
