For travelers on a budget, B&B Wena can't be beat. The owners, Wayan and Noman, are accommodating and pleasant, and you feel as if you are living in a Balinese neighborhood, with a Balinese family, when you stay here--because you are! You wake to the sound of roosters and a baby crowing, and you sleep to the bubbling of a koi pond. Your breakfast will be served on your own private porch. You are situated on a street full of the top-rated restaurants in Ubud. The free in-room wifi is slow, but it works predictably.
The only reason I can't give a higher rating is that the accommodations were too rustic for us at this advanced stage of our lives. (We are retirees in our mid-sixties.) We cant sleep with just open windows and a ceiling fan but no AC, on a bamboo bed that doesn't yield and has a slightly musty odor. The lighting in the room was barely adequate, though Wayan replaced bulbs for us. And the bathroom, which also had an odor, featured only an open shower in the same area as the toilet. Water was good and hot, though. There was minimal furniture, so we had to live out of our luggage and place our toiletries on the bathroom floor.
Ten years ago, we could hack this, but because we need more comfort now, we moved to a resort outside of town.
Clean, comfortable homestay, central location, surprisingly quiet, business from the roads doesn´t reach you while staying here. But you can reach the busy streets very quickly if you wish, just step outside. Very good breakfast, yummy banana pancake or toast and egg and fruits + coffee/tea. We stayed 9 nights in upstairs room and only minus was that on that room there is no porch or proper balcony. Four other rooms have their own porches. Very good internet and we used it a lot because of our work. Welcoming and friendly family. Good value.
Found this place buy chance. Lovely accommodation fare price. We had the upstairs apartment which meant we could leave our windows open all the time and got a fantastic breeze through the room the room only has a fan but that is all we needed.
You here cockerels every morning but this is normal for ubud
The only thing we didn't like is they have 3 dogs which seem to always be chained up. Night and day. We did say this to the owner and he saw it as being kind. We disagree.
We would have given this a 5 if not for the way the dogs were left.
Wena is a very centrally located homestay. On a side road in Ubud, with dozens of other similar places, we saw quite a few before settling on Wena.
We stayed in room 6, which was upstairs. The room was large and bright, and most of all clean. The hot water was not working on the day we arrived but the manager sorted it out very promptly so we had piping hot water from day 2.
Breakfast was excellent, pancakes, fresh fruit and Lombok coffee - delicious!
A fantastic place to stay, highly recommended.
