We liked our stay in the nice cottages. you sleep on the first floor, the bed was ok. The mosquito net wasnt a real mosquito net, it was made of thick cotton or something like that so that the air circulation of the fan couldnt pass it. So it was incredible hot. The breakfast was indonesian standard. Nothing special. We just stayed there for one night and left to gilis afterwards. Padang bai is a nice calm place to stay for one or two nights. The billabong cottages are a cheap option to stay with u are not looking for something fancy. It is simple, but nice and clean. We didnt realise any bugs.
This place was a killer deal at under $15/night, and I loved the rice house design. However, it was really hot in the room at night, mostly because the thick cotton muslin mosquito net that prevented any air circulation from the fan (no AC). The bedroom is on the second floor of the rice house (picture an upended rowboat, with a prow roof), with a balcony furnished with a lounge. The simple bathroom, just a large, tiled room with a shower head stuck in the wall, was clean, though there was only cold water—not a problem in the heat. The bathroom is on the ground floor, fronted by anther seating area with two large chairs and a settee, where breakfast is served. A family runs the lodging, and you order breakfast from the open air kitchen area—very homey. Banana pancakes or jaffles and tea or coffee are offered for breakfast. There is a large garden with many nice trees, though it’s paved with concrete, which is easy to keep clean. The place is located right across from the harbor in Padang Bai, and is within walking distance of the beautiful snorkeling spot, Blue Lagoon Beach, if you don’t mind one short, but steep hill. We really enjoyed the little town and spent 3 relaxing days here. All the local restaurants serve deliciously fresh seafood. The Billabong can arrange ferry transportation to Lombok and will drive you to the ferry. This is very basic accommodation, on the low end of budget lodging, but for the price offers decent value.
