When we arrived after a whole day journey from Europe on plane/boat we were informed that hotel rooms were sold to another guests as our credit card was not working and we were "late" because we indicated that we arrive approximately between 5 and 6 pm and it was 7pm!
We were shocked and asked to talk with hotel manager. After a while a guy arrived on a bike claiming to be the manager. After asking how he propose to solve the issue, he said it is not his problem and we should look for another hotel as this one is fully booked and this is our fault as the card was not working.
The reservation was made two months before and no indication of card problems were communicated. The card was used in Argentina and Uruguay for renting the cars/hotel rooms etc. so it was working perfectly.
After two hours spent having an argument with the manager on the reception, and refusal to pay extra for another hotel (one room instead of two for 300% more), we were suddenly informed that we can stay in this hotel as the rooms are now available (?!?).
We've paid (using this "not working" card) and were able to access the rooms.
I don't know what the hotel manager was trying to achieve, but it was definitely disturbing our holiday moods and stressing our nerves
