I have rated this hotel a 2/5. Firstly, some positive things: hotel is located on a hill (although in some cases it might be a disadvantage) so the views on ferradura beach are really breathtaking. Common area also has a pool which is very nice. We went to Buzios with our 17 months old son and he really enjoyed swimming. Offered breakfast was not excellent but it was good enough (cereals, fruit, omelette, different pastries, coffee and tea, fresh juices).
Now for the disadvantages, and there are quite a lot. Free WiFi listed was not available for the rooms. Only in common areas like the restaurant and the pool.
Next, the crib for our son that we specifically required upon reservation was not in the room, more than that, they didn't even have one, so they just brought a single bed which we had to join with our bed. My question is why list that you can provide a crib when you don't even own one? Some other lies advertised were that each room has a terrace with a hammock and our room didn't. It might have been a lesser disappointment if they listed that only some rooms had a terrace with a hammock... The final touch is the broken lamp...
The staff in general was not helpful. We were not notified that in order for the room to be cleaned we had to leave our key in the reception, when we did learn about this and went to leave the key, we were told the cleaning lady will not clean our room today (note, cleaning lady has a timetable 8am-3pm and we have brought the key at 1:45pm so apparently 1nav5 min is not enough to take out the trash and change towels...and that's in 4 stars hotel!!!). Apart from that, the receptionist told us that the timetable of the restaurant was the following : breakfast served from 8-10:30 am and in the evening the restaurant closes at 10pm. However when we have arrived to have lunch at 2pm we were informed that the restaurant opens only at 3pm which we didn't expect of course. Since the hotel is located a little bit far away from the centre (30 min walking, not 10 as the receptionist misguided) we didn't have any option of eating elsewhere. And although for us it was not such a big deal, for our child it was. Luckily, that day a very nice lady was working in the kitchen so she offered to prepare some food for us outside the usual timetable, thank you very much to her!
As for the cleanliness of the room: it was not cleaned well before our arrival, the floor was full of sand! As for the cleanliness of the kitchen, there are a lot of ants and flies around, but with the climate of Brazil there's not much you can do about it. It didn't bother us at all but we have noticed their precense.
All in all, we had a pleasant stay only thanks to escapes to the beach and the city and spending time in the pool... Definitely not coming back to this hotel.
This is one of the worst "hotel" I ever stayed. There was no water for one day, TV not working, and usually forgets to put towels. Totally do not recommend this "hotel".......just horrible......both.room and service.
My boyfriend and I stayed some days at the hotel. A very good service. The room was great with a terrace that had a super aerial view of the beach. It was awesome. A really peaceful place. Every item in the room was beautiful.
There were a few good things about this hotel:
a) the view: that was truly awesome. When we checked out the view...we were speechless.
b) the quiet: there is no noise (unless you turn on the air conditioning...that would create vibrations in the entire room and it was quite loud)
c) the staff: they were friendly and tried to help in any way they could, but...they are not responsible for bad management.
So...let's go to the bad things:
a) far from downtown & the beach (it is not real walking distance to go downtown and the walk to the beautiful beach...not 200 mts)
b) Dirty. Eveything was dirty...I would smash a bug and it would stay there for the entire week...additionally it is an old hotel, that needs serious remodelling. The professional pictures are old, not realistic. It might have been a luxury hotel 30 years ago....but not maintained.
c) Bugs...bugs all over (cockroaches and huge ants). At one point there was a big cockroach walking on the bed sheets...also another one inside the closet. Really nasty. I get that it is a hotel in the middle of the wild-forest...but there are pesticides for the plagues. We had a frog and iguanas, but those are fine...part of the wildlife. Cockroaches...not so much "wildlife".
d) It was a tiny tiny room...we were 2 and not able to walk down the same corridor at the same time.
e) the TV...worked intermittently and some channels not even viewable. Internet was down several times as well. The phone line was not working (so we couldn't even call the reception for anything, it was a 10 minute walk - with several sets of stairs and also a steep street up)
f) The beds were not comfortable at all. Linens had stains and were not changed.
g) The towels...were good for exfoliating, but certainly not for drying your sunburnt body.
h) sockets: some did not work, so it was a challenge charging cell phones/tablet/cameras.
i)Poor lightning : inside the room and outside (many times the outside light to enter the main area was off, so just hoping not to trip on anything until we got to the room)
j) we didn't go to the pool...it was way too small.
k) it was impossible to keep the shower at a stable temperature....I had to keep switching the knobs...not a nice shower time.
L) Restaurant was closed most of the time we were there
I wouldn't stay there again, even if they offered it for free. Buzios is awesome and the entire trip was excellent, but..accomodation wise, don't let the nice pics trick you. There are a lot of hotels/pousadas where you can make your money count.
