This hotel ranks a 5 for everything - service, spa, dinner and breakfast, and room. First, the service. Check-in in the comfort of your own room with an attentive staff. All rooms face the sea - amazing view of the sunset with huge crashing waves against the numerous boulders that line the coast. The awesome part is the entire length of the room has floor-to-ceiling windows which allows privacy (practically next to the crashing waves) and permits you to take in the entire coast in its full glory.
As the staff guided us around the room, we were given their signature "deep sea water" which is actually water drawn and filtered from an aquifer located deep under the ocean. A tinge of saltiness but refreshing.
Next, the meal service. We got the full-board - breakfast and dinner - for a night's stay. Very nicely done but you need to have the patience to sit through a two-hour dinner service. Very challenging if you have small children like us. It is a small restaurant so you have to make your reservations for particular time slots in advance. We did not book early so our dinner was pushed to 8 pm.
The spa was fabulous. Deep sea therapy as it is called. Didn't try the massages but used the spa hydro pool and sauna. Clean and without the moldy smell some spas have. The spa pool (the only pool in the resort) is strictly off-limits to children, which depending on your perspective, can be an inconvenience or a blessing.
I would definitely recommend it for couples or simply a self-rejuvenation trip.
However, do note that this is NOT a beach. There is no beach, just giant rocks which I am pretty sure are not safe to venture onto. It is also not conveniently located. We drove almost four hours from Niihama to this place in Kochi.
A very nice boutique hotel with 17 rooms only, all facing the sea. Rooms are spacious, and comes with small balconies. I arrived late, almost past dinner time, but hotel was very accommodating, and allowed me to dine in.
Hotel has a Typhoon Terrace atop the rooms, which is great place to see sunrise. Local tea is served to keep you warm while waiting for sunrise, which is a nice touch.
It is better if you can spend 2 full days at this resort hotel, where you can also enjoy its pool with deep sea waters.
The only minor inconvenience is I was unable to receive communications signal for my phone anywhere except up on Typhoon Terrace. But travel is to relax, not to check email constantly. :P
Hotel can arrange geotour, which is good. You can visit the places yourself but it's good to do ti with a guide. Please note the guide speaks very little English.
The dinner is now Italian rather than French, but the reality is it's Japanese with a hint of Italian. Many raw dishes.... I can't say that raw urchins are yummy and tuna always feels like it needs cooking....
I didn't believe that anybody could get on the sea wall, but no our neighbours decided that they would do their stretches on, so best not to take the shower without dropping the blinds.
Lovely big room, free WiFi, nice big comfy double bed. The birds tweeted outside around the trees. The staff were helpfull and friendly. Breakfast good.
We got the multiple bow wave off when we left the hotel as we drove off like one did in Yakushima last year at the JR Hotel. Possible candidates for shipping back home for the world of excess.
Summary a good hotel to chill out with someone special.
