After a hectic few weeks needed somewhere to chill out and this was the perfect place. Nice quiet hostel, hot showers, very clean and equipped kitchen with a small bar if you fancy a drink or two.
Owner was very nice and helpful. Did our washing for us plus gave us advice on places to go to and eat. Breakfast was o.k as was the rooms. Decent location to the city as well. If wanting to relax for a few days would definitely recommend this pace to stay.
I stayed around Santa Cruz and was visiting the surrounding narural locations for almost 2 weeks. I was always coming back from my adventurous trekking to this warm and friendly hostel and stayed for 8 nights in total. I was always cheerfully welcomed and felt as coming to my good friend´s house. The charismatic and nice owner Thomas, his lovely daughter Kim and other 2 great guys Nano and Juan Jose working at the reception made my stay here very pleasant experience. The hostel does not have a central location but taking a minibuses to get to the center is very easy and you will learn the city and its atmosphere greatly from the bus windows;) I recommend this place to the other independent travellers who do not look for the hotel comfort but have an adventure and flexible spirit. You wil find a good and warm people here.
Originally, we had a reservation for Los Aventureros, but since the owner asked us if he could transfer us to his second, newly opened hostel Los Trotamundos, because he was expecting a large group to fill Los Aventureros, we agreed and stayed two seperate nights at Los Trotamundos. Compared with Los Aventureros, Los Trotamundos is a new hostel where most of the things are new and fresh. However, the hostel seemed empty and without competent staff. It does not feel like a hostel either, more like an empty dwelling on the outskirts of Santa Cruz....
Our first night, arranged with the owner, was ok. The room was clean, bed was ok, private bathroom (although smelly!) etc.
But our second night (after a few days outside of Santa Cruz) was a strange, unfriendly experience. The owner seemed to be away travelling and there was an unfriendly lady who didn't (or didn't want to) understand us and who apparently didn't expect us. With each question we posed (even in Spanish) she called the hostel Los Aventureros were there was a man who then asked us in very basic bad English what we wanted. After some negotiations on the room and price (they tried to sell us a room without private bathroom for the same price as a room with a private bathroom), we stayed the night there since we had an early flight. Again, no homely feel, a smelly bathroom (must be the cleaning stuff or something?), but the room itself was clean and the bed was good.
We would not go back here. Only good for a short night between flights.
Nice accommodation hot water and large rooms but a bit far from the city center, very fast with a taxi but you won't do it walking. It is close from the airport if you stay there just for a night. It is possible to spend some time in the garden and to have a drink.
First off don't hesitate because its not splat bang in the centre, you can pick up a micro-bus just outside for 2 Bolivars & you r in the heart of the city in 5 minutes.
Now for Trotamundos itself, its a charming place run by a delightful gentleman by the name of Thomas. He is helpful & knowledgeable
The rooms are simpe but clean, we opted for just a fan - yes it can be warm but its not unbearable & if you get too hot there is a small "pool"
Wifi is excellent. Sit out in the garden area & plan ur itinerary
Thomas has 2 beautiful tents also available to rent on the property
Great stay - we are doing a tour and coming back to stay
For lunch don't miss the Mercado Nuevo great local food for under €2!!
