We had received a message a few days earlier from the agency we booked through telling us we needed to pay more money for the rooms as there had been a mistake. We arrived to find no one around. What I think was the Gardner showed us some rooms. We didn't meet the owner till the next morning as we were leaving, he quickly made us breakfast. We had little sleep as Roosters making noise from 4am, traffic noise from the motorway and late night party music from neighbours.
We were only there for one night at the end of a South African winter, but we absolutely loved the feel of this place. Yes, it is old and full of relics, but we liked that authentic feel and felt like we were in a living museum. My husband was down with a very bad cold and the owner Henri came up with fresh lemons, honey and a bottle of strong alcohol so that I could make him a "medicinal grog"! He was so kind and gave us a lot of details about Plettenberg Bay. Our room, the Cuthbert, had an incredible view of Robberg Island. Everyone was helpful and kind!
The breakfast was good.
View from one of the rooms (we had two rooms) looked over the bay.
Short 5 minute drive to Plettenberg Bay
Location off N2 and approach was awful with a building in disrepair next to it.
Welcome greeting was non existent
Place is in desperate need of renovation. We had a shower and it leaked all over the hallway floor (which we only knew when we went for breakfast). I felt bad for having a shower!!
We had two rooms and both had outside locks which were hanging off.
The room at the back of the house was on the N2 and a township which had a nightclub playing music all night. My wife had to find earplugs to drown out the noise.
We had 2 nights here and spent as much time away from the place as possible.
2* hostel at best
Avoid. Pay a bit more for another property, by far the worst accommodation we stayed in.
