You cannot fault this guesthouse. The ambience, the décor and the host all make your stay so relaxing and special. We have stayed at many and this one tops the list. Close the town centre but not too close thereby retaining it's tranquil atmosphere. Use of all facilities is a nice touch and perfect if you plan to have some meals at home or just want to relax around the pool and have breakfast or an afternoon drink.
Byron Dunes has 3 private studio rooms and shared lounge and kitchen. The rooms are well presented with many extra little touches such as fresh coffee in your room. The location is great - just a short walk into town but be sure to take a torch if returning at night as surrounding area is very dark. The 3 rooms were occupied when we were there but you're really not aware of any other guests - other than a friendly chat in the well equipped and immaculate kitchen.Only criticism relates to the pillows which were very firm and king sized bed not the firmest - but it's all a matter of personnel preferences -and it would have been great to have an extra comfy chair in the room. Free wi-fi too. Owners were friendly and helpful with restaurant choices etc. great to have secure parking too.
After a great day or two and very pleased with our accommodation choice ( even booking an extra night!) it is with regret that I am writing this review in disappointment as we were abruptly awoken at 1am on Sunday morning to the noise of loud voices and thumping of footsteps..!! Laying awake and thinking it was the property next door I was surprised in further investigation that the loud noises were In fact from the care takers unit at the front of the property which adjoins the 3 units... As we were staying in 'Seagrass', this is the unit closet to the front and the caretakers residence.. I am highly disappointed at this behaviour as I would think they would take into consideration that the complex was fully booked and partying till way past 2am was unreasonable with paying guests just meters away trying to sleep.
I am a Brisbane resident and come to Byron often. This time choosing a higher value/class of accommodation. Shame the price does not match the hospitality given by the caretakers in respect of the other guests. I did expresses my concerns and dissapointment to the property managers with no real conern or compensation.
Very disappointed as I was looking to book Byron dunes for a friends reunion early next year.. I will be looking at other options now as I don't want the same thing to happen again..
We stayed for four days in November (but avoided Schoolies). My wife was recovering from medical treatment and we just wanted somewhere to relax. Single bedroom and ensuite was comfortable and clean. Shared common facilties of lounge, kitchen, laundry and pool were of similar standard. Not quite luxury, but upmarket. Area was quiet, probably 15 minute walk to centre of town but we drove in most time for my wife. I was able to walk to the lighthouse and back but this was an afternoon's activity. Byron had plenty of good places to eat in a laid back atmosphere. We walked on the beach, drove into the hinterland, visited the lighthouse and my wife visted one of the day spa establishments. Predominance of young backpackers around but still plenty to do for us older folks. All in all, this met our requirements for a relaxing stay.
Byron Dunes guest house is modern, clean and in a great location. It's situated just a few minutes walk from the beach, restaurants and shops of Byron, and a few minutes drive from the famous lighthouse.
There are only three suites at Byron Dunes and we didn't bump into any other guests or even the owners during our two night stay. We had complete privacy and felt as if it were our own house. There is off street parking available, a pool, BBQ, shared kitchen and shared lounge room. I would recommend taking a torch for night time strolls.
While in Byron be sure to visit the Byron Bay Cookie Company as the delicious complimentary cookies in the suite will leave you wanting more. Also check out Cheeky Monkey's Restaurant and Bar for a fun night out and Byron Bay Skydive for an unforgettable experience.
I would recommend Byron Dunes guest house to couples looking for a private, relaxing getaway.
