This resort is new, clean, modern and comfortable. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. With only 6 Units it will never be crowded but will remain quiet and intimate. However, weddings are held here on average once or twice per month - those times (on any day of the week - there was a wedding with 70 guests when we were there on a Monday). Obviously, then the place becomes crowded and noisy and the car parking is inadequate.
The views of the Mekong and Laos mountains are superb and can be taken in from the deep verandahs or just lying on your bed. Breakfast is included and is very tasty with a range of choices from the menu. The Thai meals at dinner are equally scrumptious and are worth a visit here alone (if there isn't a wedding on at the time).
We did find the bathroom extremely small - not much bigger than a small cupboard. Despite the adverts speaking highly of a separate WiFi in each room, we did find the WiFi rarely worked and was intermittent at best. So, it was good to have our own data plan to access the Internet. Some basic maintenance is needed (e.g. the rainshower in the bathroom didn't function properly). While this is a great place, it is probably a bit expensive for the size (particularly with a small bathroom).
First of all: The resort's location is one of the best you can find along the Mekong in Thailand. However, what really makes the place so exceptional is the combination of location, top quality accomodation, great food and lots of hospitality. We spent six nights and enjoyed every moment. The bungalows are not huge but offer enough space, the bathroom is close to perfect in every aspect, the beds are comfortable, softer than they usually are in Thailand, the terrace with day bed, table and chairs is great to watch the sunset over the two colour river, a special experience. When it comes to food, the breakfast menue is nice but the quality of the Thai food is extraordinary. We travel a lot in Thailand and we love Thai food and this is among the best we ever had. We can't say anything about the Western style food but we suppose it is of very good quality, too. Pe, the host, organized a sunset boat trip on the river for us, which was just great. He also recommended a massage parlour in town, and the girls did an excellent job. The pool was just finished the day we had to leave. This feature will make the place even more attractive. We would definitely love to come back to spent some more time at this great place with Pe and the entire Orchid Riverside family.
The only small complaint we have are the drinks. No beer Leo, only Chang and Singha as Thai beers, and no beer Lao (being just across the border, we hoped to get some in a place that is advertising an international beer selection). In addition, compared to the food, the drinks to us seemed to be a bit on the expensive side plus, the capuccino was disappointing.
