We really enjoyed our stay at Regent Lodge after a previous disastrous night at a different Kandy accomodation. We were able to check in very early, we got there about 9am expecting to only leave our bags but our room was ready and we were welcomed with a tea & coffee with ginger biscuits, and a super-friendly Dudley. Dudley gave us advice on where to go, and arranged a fantastic driver to take us to Dambulla and Sigiriya. The shared areas are wonderful with fantastic views across the hills, a lovely place to sit. We ate there once and it was a really good meal, albeit by far the most expensive meal we had in SL ($20 each for a fixed 4 course menu - far too much food for us to eat). Breakfasts were lovely (and included in the price), when we mentioned that we had had difficulty getting string hoppers the previous night we were surprised with them the next morning for breakfast - a really nice touch.
The room was a touch expensive for a room with no A/C, and Dudley and his wife can be a bit overbearing at times (and a little bit snobbish) but overall it was a lovely stay, and we found that the Sri Lanka way was generally a little bit over-friendly for our English reservedness - others may love it. The area is very humid so things were a little bit damp and the blankets smelt musty probably because of that, and there were quite a few mossies about but there's not a lot that can be done about that. Overall I would recommend
